Giving YOUth a voice and transforming the quality of young people’s lives since 2010

We are an arts-based education charity whose mission is to increase access to creative approaches to education in under-resourced areas in London and, increasingly, across the UK. Through our work we aim to develop the life skills and creative skills of vulnerable, disadvantaged children and young people in order to:

Improve their confidence, communication & resilience

Help them navigate sensitive topics that impact their wellbeing and development

Enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals

Increase access to arts-related employment pathways

Allow them to reach their creative potential

Our Timeline

2010

Co-founders Dwayne Gumbs and Alex Williams officially set up Diverse Voices, with the initial focus on tackling sensitive topics through Theatre in Education and delivering arts-based learning with vulnerable young people in their local area of East London.

2020

Diverse Voices pivoted to develop an E-learning portal addressing the most pressing issues young people were faced during the Covid-19 pandemic, including online safety, healthy relationships and sexually harmful behaviour. They transferred their creative approaches to education into interactive online activities, adapting their educational theatre pieces into professional film productions.

2021

In February their conversion was complete into a CIO as they became officially registered with the charity commission, forming a board of trustees with longstanding supporters of the organisation and advocates of their work.

2025

15 years since their inception, Diverse Voices continues to expand into under-resourced areas across the UK. They have refined a blended approach which combines their online resources with arts-based facilitation from their trained practitioners, as well as launching their 1st creative hub to address the lack of representation in the arts.
